Biologist and Specialist in Applied Genetics (Alma Mater University of Bologna) I’m a permanent researcher at CREA (Council for Agricultural Research and Economics) since 2008. From 1998 to 2008 I’ve gained experience on hemp biology and physiology, working on sex determination, cannabinoids and fiber retting as a fixed term researcher in italian and european projects on industrial hemp at CREA-CI (Bologna). During this period I’ve contributed to the development of molecular markers, and relative fast detection system, for sex and chemotype determination in hemp. Furthermore, I’ve studied the sexual differentiation of dioecius hemp by morphological (Optical and SE Microscopy) and transcriptomic analysis (cDNA-AFLP, RnaSeq). I’ve been in charge of the cannabinoids analysis at CREA-CI (national reference laboratory for the analysis of cannabinoid content in italian hemp crops) and I’ve collaborated with the Police of the Agricultural and Forestry Policy Headquarters.
Currently I’m the Proteomics laboratory manager at CREA-GB (Fiorenzuola d’Arda-Piacenza) and my research activity is focussed on hemp seed protein composition. I’m also interested in cannabis genomics.
I’ve taught on hemp biology, genetics and biochemistry in training courses addressed to farmers and funded by the European Structural Funds for Rural Development (PSR 2014-2020 Emilia-Romagna Region). I’ve been scientific coordinator of the project “Hemp residues - reuse for food and energy recovery with oils” (SCARABEO) and I’m currently scientific coordinator of the project "Fiber Hemp for the Production of functional foods and protein biomasses for animal feeding” (CATERPILLAR), both funded by PSR 2014-2020 Emilia- Romagna Region-ITALY
